Corey grew up in Northern Alberta and moved to Edmonton to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in finance and graduating "with honours" at the University of Alberta in 2005. Corey completed his LLB at the University of Alberta in 2008 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2009. Corey has completed the Osgoode University Certificate in Mining Law and completed a leadership and future executive development course at the Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario. In addition, Corey is involved in the industry and has done numerous presentations over the years.
Prior to becoming counsel with MacMillan Knight LLP, Corey practiced law with an international law firm and acted as in-house for the largest publicly traded Canadian construction company before founding and successfully establishing his own construction law and consulting firm, Sandquist Law & Construction Project Consulting. Corey has extensive experience throughout the project lifecycle with mining, pipeline construction, heavy industrial and oil sands infrastructure, cogeneration facilities and transportation infrastructure projects. In addition, Corey has experience in employment standards and wrongful dismissal suits, builder's liens, construction litigation, commercial litigation, occupational health and safety law, security services law and municipal law. Corey has transitioned into, and has extensive experience in, the cannabis industry. Corey has appeared at all levels of the Alberta Courts.
